Qingdao Port Dongjiakou Port Area started construction since 2009, with a planned area of 72 square kilometers, a frontage length of 35.7 kilometers, a total of 112 berths and an annual throughput capacity of 530 million tons.

Since its operation, Dongjiakou Port has been in a state of temporary opening, and the business approval and development process are cumbersome. On 11 June Dongjiakou Port Area successfully passed the acceptance by the National Office of Port Administration. After becoming a formal port, the business approval process of Dongjiakou Port Area will be more simplified, and the types of businesses that can be carried out will be more abundant, which will help the port area expand its development scale.

Dongjiakou Port Area has a world-class 400,000-ton ore terminal, the most advanced environmental protection and information operating system. The number of large ships berthed in this port area rank first in China. Dongjiakou Port Area has created a port brand serving large ships with the world's highest comprehensive efficiency, the most complete supporting functions and the best overall service, and has become the best port for 400,000-ton-class mine ships to berth in China. The oil terminal has a world-class deep-water terminal, which can accommodate large oil tankers with a maximum capacity of 450,000 tons. It has 2.86 million cubic meters of crude oil storage tanks, the country's first batch of crude oil futures designated delivery warehouses, more than 1,000 kilometers of long-distance pipelines, and the most intelligent pipeline dynamic monitoring system. The bulk terminal equipped with specialized bulk cargo unpacking facilities, has the most advanced automatic bulk grain unloading system in the whole area. It has supporting storage yard of 1.3 million square meters, 5 large storage warehouses, 26 bulk grain silos of 10,000 tons capacity and a maximum storage capacity of over 4 million tons. The railway in Dongjiakou Port Area was officially put into operation on 6 March 2019. Currently, the railway has loaded 268,187 railway wagons and transported 17.2 million tons goods, pushing Dongjiakou Port Area into railway era.

As the official opening of Dongjiakou Port Area, Qingdao Port will stand on the new platform of “Belt and Road” initiative to seize the opportunity of SCO Free Trade Zone and further build the port into the world's leading smart green port and logistics hub port.
